Måbøtunnelen and RV7 - Additional information

Comment: In August 2023 the tunnel is still closed to cyclists but the rocks on the alternative route have been cleared mostly. It is not open to cars but is very fine for cycling.
Alternative route: The road is easy to find since there is only one other than the tunnel, mostly nice asphalt and no additional vertical ascent to do. You have to pass some fences tho but very easy to pass on the side.

Alternative route: There is a Skyss bus that runs through the tunnel once or twice a day. We caught it from Øvre Eidfjord to Dyranut, and still were able to cycle across the beautiful plateau.

Further to the RV7 being closed across the Hardangervidda. From late June to September there is an alternative route which is to take the Rallarvegen route from Haugastøl to Voss. It is an off road track but if you have a bike that can cope with tracks it is perfectly ride-able with a short section in the middle which is a little rough and you may prefer to get off a walk and a section where you have to take a short train ride from Myrdal through the 5km Gravhals tunnel to Uppsete. In our opinion it is a cracking route and well worth doing just for the scenery, there is more information on our travelogue report. The other alternative is to catch the train right through from Haugastøl to Voss.
