HordalandStavenestunnelenE162771mYesNoneThe suggested alternative is to take the train between Trengereid and Stanghelle. You can take the small singletrack path and enter the abandoned tunnels and completely cross back and forth, no bus or train required; gravel tyres are enough the route isn't very difficult more than it is tedious due to the large gravel; it is a singletrack+gravel path on essence and you can make it to both sides without issue provided your kit can take it, a mountainbike is not required just a gravel kit that is competent enough to handle the terrain, you will need to carry your bicycle in a couple of places due to obstacles when going down (or up) so watch out, but otherwise it is completely possible; left in amber because it needs you lift your bicycle in those singletracks and the gravel capacity that your bicycle requires; other than that is a awesome ride and quite the experience.

Sogn og FjordaneHagatunnelen50690mYesYesThese tunnels are all OK when travelling West towards Aurland. In this direction all are downhill and present no problems. I would not recommend cycling this route in the other direction, as everything is uphill, some steeply.

Møre og RomsdalØksendalstunnelen626000mYesYesThere is a road around it that follows the edge of the fjord to the north but it will add a few km to your journey and involves a bit of climbing. The old road adds 10km to your journey. - Dick RisThere was no sign to say you can't cycle through it so I did. It is very well lit and ventilated but it is quite a busy road and the vehicles travel fast. At 6km long it was quite a scary ride but as long as you have good lights and your wits about you it is fine to cycle through.

The alternative is at most 500m longer than the new route. The tunnel is alternate concrete and bare rock with some small rock falls in places. It is reasonably wide and generally we had no issues. Road surface for first and last 25m is poor, then improves considerably. Lighting is OK but there were one or two places where the bulbs were out and it was darker - there are emergency bays at intervals, along with phones etc.

FinnmarkSkarvbergettunnelenE693330mYesYesThe tunnel has its own bike lane. Use it. The bicyclepath is separated from the car lane by a concrete wall. FinnmarkNordkapptunnelenE696900mYes?The ferry from Kåfjord to Honningsvåg no longer runs, your only alternative is the Hurtigruten ferry into Honningsvåg.This tunnel links the island of Mageryøa to mainland Norway at a depth of 230 meters under the sea. There is 10 percent descent and ascent. This tunnel is ok, there is no need to fear it. We went through it yesterday at 15:00 with around 30 vehicles, the tunnel is wide and it was no more noisy or disorientating than any other tunnel we’ve been through. Cold for sure - arm and knee warmers with gloves and a waterproof jacket on the way down was about right, but stop in one of the wide lay-bys before climbing too far as it does feel very warm on the way up. The climb is steep but also better than expected, just like climbing at night with no reference points all you know is you are going up, and you just need to keep going. We were in the tunnel for probably 30 minutes or so, yet worried about it ever since we planned the trip! The pavement is also very good surface and normal pavement width, so available if you want to get off the road for any reason.
FinnmarkHonningsvågtunnelenE694500mYesYesGentle climb from 5mtr at entry to 40mtr in the middle and back down again. Reasonably well lit and wide enough for traffic to pass you fairly easily. There is a sort of hard shoulder you can use to stay out of the way of passing traffic but, if you do, beware of the road signs that protrude intermittently from the wall in front of you, they have a habit of becoming an obstruction at the most inopportune moment.

NordlandNappstraumtunnelenE101776mYesYesThere is a Monday to Saturday ferry boat service - Nusfjord to Ballstad. From Lofoten.info: Ballstad to Nusford at 11a.m., return at 12 noon. Ring Kraemmervika on +47 76 06 09 20. - Ron Gutteridge. The ferry now has a website where you can make a booking http://www.ballstadgutt.no The ferry runs from the 1st June to the 1st September. As an alternative you can take a bus through the tunnel. There seems to be some controversy with this tunnel as to whether it should be amber or green. Our conclusion is that it should be amber as due to steep gradients this tunnel demands care. The tunnel connects the two islands of Flakstadøya and Vestvågøya and carries a fair amount of traffic. It is deep and long and can sometimes be wet at the bottom. It is easy to pick up speed on the descent and lose control on the slime at the bottom. We suggest that you read the Additional comments page and make up your own mind. Our preference is the ferry as it is a much more interesting journey than the tunnel. Please Note The Nappstraumtunnelen tunnel in Lofoten is closed at night for 2,5 years – until December 2027, due to upgrade to meet safety requirements. The tunnel between Flakstadøya and Vestvågøya will be closed every night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Two through-passes are allowed in each direction during the night; at 12 a.m. and at 3 a.m. During the day, traffic will be directed by a traffic control vehicle. NordlandRørvikskartunnelenE10726mYesYesAlternative route over the pass is signposted as walking route but we attempted on a dry June day on loaded touring bikes and was hard work on the variable and sometimes rocky terrain, but a fun and worthwhile experience and definitely should be considered by adventurous cyclists with off-road cycling ability/potential. Downhill entrance of this is next to main tunnel entrance, uphill side joins main tunnel for the last 20m or so. This is a famous tunnel you can actually sleep in. The tunnel is divided into two section, one for cars and one for hiker and cyclist. The pedestrian side is open in places to the outside offering ocean views. This is a red tunnel if you cycle the car route. But why would you when there is a clear cycling section to take. It's not a side road but part of the tunnel. This is why I believe it should be green.

Sogn og FjordaneHeia 513 side road@240mYesNoneNoneTunnel is reopened, we rode through it July 2025 and it's great. Pretty dark and bumpy road but no cars.
Sogn og FjordaneSundafjelltunnelen51883mYesYesNo Alternative route. The old road has definitely fallen into the fjord so this tunnel is compulsory. It is rather wide but busy and climbing from Floro to Forde.
