Installing the Tunnels POI files onto Locus Map on an Android device

Locus Map logoThis is a step-by-step guide to installing our Norwegian Tunnels POI files on to the Locus Map app on a device running the Android operating system.

These screen shots were taken on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 running Android 5. But most Android devices such as phones and tablets should look pretty much the same but there might be some variation.

Installing the Tunnel icons

The first thing you will need to do is to download and install the tunnel icons and extract the zip file and copy this into the Locus Map 'icons' folder.

1. Using your device download the 'Tunnel icons' file from our Norwegian tunnels map.

2. Open up a file manager app such as 'ES File Explorer' and tap on the local device disk icon.

3. Scroll down to find your 'Download' folder icon, tap on it to open it.

4. Find the 'Tunnels.zip" file icon and press on it until a tick appears in the bottom left of the icon.

5. Press on the three dot icon on the top icon bar to bring up the menu and select 'Extract to'.

6. Make sure the 'Tunnels/' radio button is checked and click 'OK'. This should extract the 'Tunnels' folder to your 'Download' folder.

7. Press on the tunnels folder icon until the tick appears. Then press on the three dot icon on the top icon bar to bring up the menu and select 'Move to'.

8. Scroll down to find the 'Locus' folder and then tap on it to find the 'icons' folder. Tap on the 'icons' folder and press 'OK'. This should move the 'Tunnels' folder into the 'Icons' folder.

Creating Tunnel folders

The next thing you will need to do is to create the tunnel folders in the data section of 'Locus Map'.

1. Open up 'Locus Map' and tap on the data icon on the menu bar.

2. In the 'Points' tab select the blue '+' button.

3. Click on 'Add new folder' to create a new folder.

4. Click on the icon to change the icon.

5. Click on the little down arrow to select the icon folder.

6. You may have to scroll down to find the 'Tunnels' folder then tap it to select it.

7. Select the tunnel icon by tapping it.

8. Type in the name of the tunnel folder and then tap 'Add'. This should have created a folder called 'Green Tunnels' in the 'Points' tab.

You will need to repeat this process to create folders for the Red, Amber and White Tunnels.

Installing the Tunnel POI files

The next thing you will need to to is to import the tunnel poi gpx files into Locus Map.

1. You will need to download our Norwegian Tunnels POI zip file from our site.

2. This should download the file to your 'Download' folder. You will need to extract the zip file using the same method mentioned above.

3. Open the 'norwegian tunnelpoi' folder and then open the 'Tunnel poi gpx' folder. Tap on the 'Tunnels Green.gpx' file.

4. This should bring up a list of apps to install the .gpx in. You will need to select 'Locus Map' or Locus Map Pro' if you have that installed.

5. You now need to select the folder to import the gpx file to. Click on the blue down arrow.

6. Select the appropriate folder for the file you are importing.

7. Click on the 'Import' button.

If all has gone well you should see that the number of items in the folder has increased.

You will need to repeat this sequence for the Red, Amber and White tunnel gpx files.

You can now check that the tunnels are showing up on the map. If you haven't downloaded a Norway offline map you will need to do that from the links on our 'Electronic mapping' page here. Once downloaded you will need to extract the map file and copy it to the 'Maps' folder in the 'Locus' folder on your device in a similar sequence as mentioned above.

1. Open up 'Locus Map' and tap on the map icon in the menu bar.

2. Tap on the 'Offline' tab and then select the Norway map by tapping it. It doesn't matter if you say 'Yes' or 'No' to the next dialogue box you can click on either.

3. Tap on the 3 line menu icon on the menu bar.

4. Tap on the 'Search' icon.

5. Tap on the 'Address & Place' envelope icon.

6. Type in 'Oslo' or another town in Norway and tap the magnifying glass icon.

7. If all has gone well you should see a map of Norway with the tunnel icons.

8. If you tap on a tunnel icon it will bring up a dialogue box with the tunnel name, tap on this box.

9. You should get a dialogue box showing the details of that tunnel.
